It Comes to an End

Fundamentals of Digital Media has led me down a crazy rabbit hole. It’s a completely different set of mediums and almost a whole new world to me. Each project, from taking pictures of Toledo to creating my own mashup has taken me out of my comfort zone. Going down a street I take every day to school, I was able to take pictures of what seemed like a post-apocalyptic world. I wouldn’t have paid any mind to the buildings or the signs I passed until I slowed down to really look at my surroundings. I am not tech-savy. When we had to download a CD, make our own song, make our own video, and so on, I was clueless. Thankfully I had an amazing teacher who not only provided articles that taught us about our weekly assignment but she went so far as to create video tutorials for us. This was especially helpful for me to see the tools and programs in action. Until our Typologies project, I didn’t realize how many earrings I owned but I loved it all the same. This project reminded me why I owned so many and that it was one of the only things I could wear to work to feel girly. Wearing a dress and heels is not beneficial for working in a car service department. I really enjoyed creating our website and blog. I never knew that there were so many uses just on the business aspect of art that a website and a blog can have. Even though both of these projects were time consuming, they each have their own purpose. I plan on continuing to use my blog and website. It would be beneficial to use these because it gets my name and my work out to the world and all I have to do is click. With the technology driven world we live in, it is much easier to give someone a business card with my website and blog on it than to give them more personal information so people can see my work. It is important for me, as someone who wants to become a teacher, to know how to use basic technologies especially in the day and age we live in. I want my future students to feel safe leaving their comfort zones to explore art and, in turn, life. How can I ask my students to do that if I haven’t myself? Well, now I have and it was an amazingly crazy experience.

What's Inside My Car: Rear View Mirror Accessories

I absolutely hate having something hanging from my rear view mirror. I think it obscures the view, causes a hazardous driving environment, and is just plain distracting. Although, I find them very neat and interesting. In the second collage, second panel, is a string of flowers. I have seen FIVE separate cars, male and female owners, with the same exact flowers hanging from their rear view mirrors. The panel with all of the car fresheners had at least six hanging from the mirror and then another one hanging from the emergency parking brake. I hadn't seen that before. In the first collage, third panel, I have no idea who's school colors the tassel belongs to but I did notice that the graduation year is this year. I didn't meet this customer, so they could either be around 18 years of age right out of high school or someone around 22 years of age right out of college. It's a nice little mystery for myself.

Confession #5

Every Friday for the past two years, I have been taking my great-grandma to get her hair done at a hair salon called Shear Designs. She has been getting her hair done since she was around 16 years old to the extent that when Shear Designs moved locations, she continued to go instead of finding a different one closer to home. She lives in a home that used to be a hotel so the doors have key cards and automatically lock when shut. So, she will occasionally remember to prop her door open for me. When she doesn't, I have to knock and wait for her to open it. She is old, quiet, and slow in moving. Almost every time her door is closed, I wonder if it'll be the day that she doesn't answer the door.

A Taste of Method Draw

This week's assignment dives us into the adventures of vector graphics. I was so surprised that the different fonts found on your computer are actually manipulations of text using vector graphics. I especially love that fact because I love scrolling through the different fonts and seeing how they change the text. I created two original logos for this week's assignment. My first logo is of a bi-colored snowflake because my blog theme is, not to be conceded but, all about me. It's all about making the blog experience personal and letting viewers know there is a real person behind each post. I used a snowflake because no two are alike and neither are people. I used the box tool to create the snowflake because I wanted my first logo to be created and not precipitated shapes. My second logo utilized the shapes that Method Draw provided. I aimed towards something more anti-bullying. There are so many people who attack others online or through technology because there isn't face to face confrontation. 'Write It Right' is about taking away all of the wrong ways to address someone online. If you must address an issue online, make it private, reasonable, and right. I used a pencil shape along with a pen shaped shadow because even though people don't think what they put online is permanent, it is. I really enjoyed manipulating the shapes to get the desired look.

Confession #5

My co-worker and I had to hang a banner on one of the garage doors at work. We had already hung it up and the guys who came to fix the door cut it down. Upon rehanging said banner, we discovered we didn't have enough string. We managed to find a piece of string that was left behind but the other corner was still left short. My co-worker goes "Wait a second" and comes back with a rubber band and tells me "Go at it kid."

What's Inside My Car: Stereotypical Female Drvier

Today's post of What's Inside My Car is the generic or stereotypical female car owner. There is a cluster of items hanging in the rear-view mirror which definitely obstructed the front windshield's view. I don't understand how people can hang things from their mirrors and feel comfortable enough to see well while driving. I gasped when I saw the Bowling Green headband considering where I attend school. Apparently my job location is the closest dealership for most people.  There was also a Beauty and the Beast CD and another CD but I don't recognize it at all. To match the stereotypical female driver, there was also plenty of pens and a pretty highlighter, fake flowers, and perfume.
